“Food isn’t just
food, it’s about sharing and learning”
My name is Carine Ottou and I am a mother, a cook, and a
chef.
I grew up in Cameroon, West Africa, where food and
tradition are extremely important, and where I learnt the value of cooking very
early on. Until I was 14, I would spend my Saturdays exploring local markets
for ingredients, and then spend hours in the kitchen with my female relatives,
cooking up a feast for up to 10 people at a time. The flavours and colours of Cameroon
instilled in me a deep passion for food and for cooking which has stayed with
me ever since.
At 14 I moved to the South of France.
I came into contact with totally new ingredients and styles of cooking, and
began to merge both cultures through my food. It was France where I really
began to shape my passion, and I would say I am still very “French” in the way
I cook. Later, I went to university in Périgueux, in a region famed for wild
mushrooms, confit de canard, Bergerac wines - and I made a very great friend
from Laos, who introduced me to Asian cookery.
I spent 6 years in Ireland, where I met
my husband, who is Swedish (which provides me with another cuisine to try!) We
now have a beautiful daughter – a budding foodie herself – and the three of us live
in Brixton, Southwest London. After many years working in IT, I have decided to spend more time exploring and expanding my passion for food. My time
is split between my chef booking site InspiringChefs, cooking and selling my
line of sauces Marie’s Little Jar, and – most importantly – running my supper
club, Matango.
And if you would like to try my food from the comfort of your own home, simply look me up on Supper UK, and I will cook a delicious meal to be delivered right to your door.
Carine
